About Maroun Hakim:
Maroun Hakim (whose signature is M. HAKIM) is one of the most renowned figures in Lebanese contemporary art. For more than fifty years now, he has been moving, as a plastic artist, between sculpting and painting with the same level of ease and most importantly, with the same amount of love.
His relationship with colors is vital, and his work is an ongoing elaboration of techniques and capacities of substance mastery.
He never stops experimenting with textures and means of expression: acrylics, watercolors, gouache, pastels and oil, infusing all material with ardent richness and variation s from his heart and mind, always remembering while tracing lines and in the virtual game of volumes that he is also a sculptor. His relationship with stone and wood is that profound relationship of a human being with the earth; however, it reveals itself in sculpting like a delightful encounter between volume and color, shape and background.
